Item Description
Striking boxwork form on this highly unusual old 360-degree casted pseudomorph from famed Tsumeb. Sparkly microcrystalline smithsonite coats the casts of the long dissolved away minerals (large and small calcite rhombs?). Cream-colored spherical aggregates of tiny sparkly, gemmy smithsonite? spikes are a nice accent. Old Upper Level material from the Al Kidwell Collection and acquired from Adi Blignaut in 1960. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. A weird looking and rare old smithsonite pseudomorph from Tsumeb.
