Smithsonite (cadmium rich)

A beautiful and unusual burnt-orange color, this complex Smithsonite is from the renowned Tsumeb Mine and is one of the more unusual styles of crystallized smithsonite for color. The color is due to cadmium, and found only in such crystals here and in Arkansas. The curved, rhombic crystals reach up to 5 mm on average, but what sets them apart above and beyond their color are the highly textured faces on the crystals. This myriad of tiny, reflective surfaces create a shimmer that is entirely different than the classic, silky luster you are used to seeing on Smithsonite. Attractive and out-of-the-ordinary, this is an excellent and aesthetic small-cabinet Smithsonite.
