Item Description
A wonderful specimen of the classic Smithsonite from the Monte Cristo Mine in Rush Creek, Arkansas. The piece has a good coverage of rich yellow-orange aggregates of eye-catching Smithsonite (which get their color from cadmium content) which are coating "curved" rhombs of Dolomite on matrix. There is a little damage, but it's in good shape overall. For my taste, this particular style is one of the most desirable from this locality, and the color is incredibly saturated compared to most cadmium-bearing Smithsonites you'll see. Certainly not terribly common on the market anymore either considering the mine closed in the early 1960s.
