Item Description
Smithsonite from Tsumeb is found in a wide ranges of colors. It is certainly one the most diverse species from this most significant locality. Fans of Tsumeb minerals will tell you that the Smithsonites from this world-famous mine are the most certainly varied in terms of habits, styles and colors. This attractive display specimen features very sharp, well-formed rhombic crystals with golden-orange color caused by the presence of cadmium. This beautiful color is highly desirable for this variety of Smithsonite, and there are not many of these specimens are still available on the market. The largest crystal measures 1.1 cm across. The piece is in superb condition, with no major damage that I can see with the naked eye, and it displays beautifully as you can see from the photos. Priced in the inventory at $1,200. This piece is from the personal collection of Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar, the well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado (1946-2007). Rich was the namesake for the rare zirconium phosphate mineral, Kosnarite. Rich built a large suite of Tsumeb minerals in the 1970s when he was partners with Charlie Key. Together they imported countless thousands of specimens from Tsumeb to the US market.
