Item Description
When these beautiful yellow Smithsonites first appeared on the market, few people knew that they wer actually mined circa 2002-2003 and intentionally held back for many years in the hopes that more would be found. They are some of the most eye-catching and fine quality examples of the species to be found anywhere in the last couple decades. The alluring yellow color is caused by a bit of cadmium content, which is typical when you find this particular hue of yellow Smithsonites. A lot of collectors saw these specimens are made direct comparisons to the famous old classic yellow Cadmian Smithsonites from the Masua Mine in Italy that were mined many decades back. Here we have a fantastic large miniature / small cabinet specimen featuring a coverage of almost velvety, lustrous botroidal Smithsonite with that fantastic yellow color covering the underlying matrix. What makes the piece so special is that the entire display side of the specimen is fully covered with Smithsonite and there are no dings or nicks to be seen! The topmost layer of the the Smithsonite is actually yellow as you can see it has more of a silvery hue underneath. The piece comes with a FREE custom lucite base for easy display and you can see it makes for quite a catching specimen. This material was limited on the market when it was first discovered, but now it's incredibly hard to get your hands on good pieces, especially such fine quality showy pieces like this. Very attractive and now sought after since nothing has been found in many years. Priced in the inventory at $4,000.
