Smithsonite (beautiful color) (Cadmium-bearing)

Item Description

This is an attractive cabinet sized yellow Smithsonite from the now famous find at Weinan, near Wenshan. The discovery itself actually happened around 2003-2005, but the specimens were hoarded until recently. The yellow color is due to cadmium content, as with yellow Smithsonite from Tsumeb, Italy, and Mexico. These are very similar to Italian Smithsonites (Masua Mine) from the 1800s. This is a appealing specimen features a coverage of translucent, vitreous/velvety, beautiful yellow and golden colored botryoidal formations on matrix. Excellent condition with no major damage, but the back of the specimen has been trimmed and sawn, so it's somewhat smooth underneath. This seems to have been a lost locality, and I have seen no specimens attributed to recent collecting here. Don't miss out on this one as very few are available on the market now.
