Item Description
These Smithsonites date back to around 2003-2005, but were hoarded and held back, and only released in the last few years. This piece is an eye-catching yellow Smithsonite from this now famous find at Weinan, near Wenshan. The yellow color is thought to be due to cadmium content, as with yellow Smithsonite from Tsumeb, Italy, and Mexico. These are very similar to Italian Smithsonites from the 1800s. This is a particularly appealing specimen with an coverage of translucent, vitreous/velvety, beautiful yellow colored botryoidal formations on matrix. The lower portion of the specimen has more of a softer silvery hue where the central Smithsonite layer has been exposed. This seems to have been a lost locality, and I have seen no specimens attributed to recent collecting here. Don't miss out on this one as very few are available on the market now.
