Item Description

This is a gorgeous miniature specimen of the famed Smithsonites from the 79 Mine in Arizona. The piece features a coverage of highly vitreous spherical aggregates that have a gentle mixture of blue-green and nearly white hues on the surface, but when the specimen is backlit, a VIBRANT blue-green color comes through, as the Smithsonites are rather gemmy. The strong color is due to copper content in the Smithsonite, and there are few places in the world where this particular hue has been found. The piece is undamaged, save the periphery where it was detached from the pocket wall. These are classics, probably the best Smithsonites from any Arizona locality, and rather desirable these days, as very little is available on the market.
