Item Description
A really cool and unusual piece for any fan of pseudomorphs / ''casts'' or secondary ore minerals. The piece came labeled as a pseudmorph, but to my mind, it's more of a ''cast'' (epimorph/perimorph), where the beautiful soft golden-pink colored botryoidal Smithsonite aggregates formed over a preexisting Gypsum (Selenite) crystal, which was later dissolved away, leaving it's original form preserved in the Smithsonite. To the best of my recollection, this is the only specimen of its kind that we've had from the Jean Baptiste Mine in Lavrion. As a matter of fact, I can't think of another Smithsonite after Gypsum from any world locality that we've had to offer, so this is certainly a rare occurrence. When you look down the length of the specimen, you can clearly see a hollow opening that runs all the way through the specimen, showing the original shape of the now absent Gypsum crystal. A very special piece, certainly unusual and downright rare in my opinion. Collected in 2016, and from the collection of Chritos Spiromitros. It's difficult to put a fair market value on a piece like this, but I would easily value it around $1,500-$2,000 for the beauty, quality and rarity.
