Item Description

Numerous mounded rhombs of Smithsonite form a rough V-shape on this small cabinet piece from Tsumeb. An early generation of small, 2 to 4 mm, pink-gray Smithsonite crystals are richly clustered on a Galena-Smithsonite matrix followed by a later generation of significantly larger Smithsonites with similar color. These Smithsonite rhombs are from 0.7 to 2 cm across also clustered one upon the other in distinct crystals. This is a hefty and very sculptural piece from this classic Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag-Ge-Cd mine. Unusual color makes it stand out.
