Item Description

Beautifully burnished, curled and curved silver wires are festooned on all sides, except for the base, on this impressive and most excellent, rich silver ore specmen from Cobalt. The wires, to about 7 mm, stand out everywhere on the very knobby and vuggy, crystalline to coarsely crystalline matrix of solid acanthite! The striking, lustrous, spearpoint acanthite crystal is 2.2 cm. This well-known mine operated from 1907 to 1965. This super piece was collected in 1964, near the end of operations. It came through the noted John Durkos Collection (he sourced and lived in the area), to the Robert Hauck Silver Collection. Rich ore, at 221 grams. Valued at $1200-1500 and worth it for richness, combination quality and rarity.
