Item Description

A very rich and dense solid vein of spinel-twinned silver crystals from the famous mines at Batopilas. This thick vein is up to 3.0 cm thick and a bit of the volcanic matrix is attached to the back. The "feathers" have an interesting variable burnish, with some being very bright, some showing iridescence or some having a thin acanthite coating. This is very rich old-time, seldom available material dating to the 1880-1920s mining period. The silver was etched out of calcite veins in the large finds of the early 1980s and there is no calcite is this thick vein. A very fine old-timer silver from this famous silver district. Mass is 154 grams. Valued at $300-400.
