Item Description

A rich, sculptural and fine leaf silver plate of kongsbergite from an uncommon for the species German locale - the Glasberg Quarry, Nieder-Beerbach, Odenwald, Hesse. Kongsbergite is the so-called mercurian variety (about 5%) of silver and is rare, worldwide. This piece has been analysed and is from a well known pocket found a few years ago. This two-sided piece has variable luster from side to side, silver-metallic to matte gray. Both sides also have, rare for the locale, pods of colorless calcite and embedded gabbro matrix. Ex J.M. Welting Collection. Valued at $750-1000.
