Item Description

This specimen is part of the 2021 Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium benefit auction, with proceeds benefiting Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, and mindat.org. Thanks to all of our participants!

This attractive and very large display-quality silver specimen has the typical style and spinel-twinned structure indicating it is from the 1980s finds here, at this ancient silver mining locality. It is a very heavy, impactful, eye-catching piece at 322 grams in mass, and is composed of solid nests of intergrown spinel-twinned silver wires. It is MUCH more meaty and massive than we usually saw when these came out. Many silvers from here are thin, frilly clusters, bendable and fragile. This is a solid specimen anchored by the attached matrix in the back. Such specimens are rare, old, and seldom for sale. It is from an old collection and valued at $7500 for both quality and size.
