Item Description
An interesting and hard to find "sheet" of Native Silver sitting atop Copper schist (according to the label) from the well-known Mansfeld Basin of Germany. The Silver itself measures 4.2 cm at its longest dimension and has a classic old patina. It's not common to get your hands on a matrix piece of this style of Silver from Mansfeld, as many of them are just nondescript and kind of "lumpy". This is certainly a different kind of Silver specimen and would make a great addition to any native elements collection or a suite of German minerals. For reference mining at Mansfeld dates back to around the year 1200 and only stopped in 1969. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#934). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Valued at $600.
