Item Description

This rich and arborescent, crystalline Silver specimen is host to numerous, well-formed Silver crystals and exhibits wonderful sculptural aesthetics. It consists of a few dozen, muted silvery metallic crystals to nearly one centimeter, most of which are elongated cubes and some modified by octahedrons. In the body of the piece, there are several unusual, elongate cubes exhibiting stepped or even stacked growth. A thin, off-white stringer of Calcite runs from almost top to bottom on this side and is a vestige of the cleaning to reveal the Silver within (this style is always found embedded within calcite, that has to be excavated). Both sides of the piece are equally attractive as there are well-formed crystals on both sides of the piece! The silvers have been shown to actually be silver pseudomorphed, or replacement after, a prevous original growth of dyscrasite. They have replaced the original mineral and kept its structure, which is why the crystallization looks so unusual for silver. A fine rich specimen. As you can see from the numbering in the collection, this dates back, possibly to the 1960s-70s.
