Silver nugget

Surprisingly, native silver in both crystals and good nuggets is relatively rare even in the "copper and silver district" of Michigan, certainly much more rare than copper. But beyond this rarity, for some reason the silver here does not form the kind of large masses even nearby Canadian mines (Ontario) have produced historically. A good Michigan silver specimen is super rare, but a nugget form, amorphous solid silver - seems even more rare than the crystals from this region. At 190 grams, this is a nice sized, hefty specimen that is a complete and solid silver nugget. It has a great luster and texture to it. Purchased by previous owner Phil Mani, at dealer Les Tolonen's gift shop in Houghton Michigan in the 1990s. Silver nuggets should sell for some multiple of the actual weight by silver, as they are so rare in nature. We valued this at $4000-5000 on the consignment.
