Item Description
A significant, old-time and large silver and copper halfbreed from the much less well-known Northwestern Mine of Michigan. The Northwestern Mine was organized in 1845, was worked intermittently until 1865 when all work ceased and was then absorbed by the famous Central Mining Company. This sculptural, rounded specimen consists of moderately lustrous, equant to subhedral, silver and copper crystals. Spinel-twinned copper crystals are highly visible. It looks to be at least 90% silver, which is uncommon for Michigan halfbreeds. Excellent and rare old material from this uncommon locale from the Skip Colflesh Collection and acquired from Don Schmerling. 49 grams
