Sillimanite (4 GEM crystal set)

Here we have a fantastic 4-crystal set of GEM quality Sillimanites from Ohngaing. This relatively common aluminosilicate metamorphic rock forming mineral is found in many world localities, but often in opaque crystals. The specimens from Ohngaing are some of the finest GEM examples of Sillimanite ever found. These specimens also have a distinctive alluring silvery purple color, which is also quite rare for the species. All of the crystals in this set are notably gemmy, virtually water-clear and still retain good crystal form, despite a bit of roundness from tumbling in the streams. For reference, gem quality Sillimanite is often referred to as Fibrolite in the gem world, but the actual species name is in fact Sillimanite. The total weight of all 4 crystal is 11.57 grams. Additionally Sillimanite has a bit of pleochroism, and if you hold these crystals in front of a computer monitor, they will change color from a silvery-purple to a pale yellow with a strong blue color at a certain angle.
