Every now and then a shocking specimen of "black tourmaline" comes along and reminds us that dark tourmailne is also really great, and deserves a place on a shelf next to gemmy crystals! This is such a piece - a dramatic and sculptural large schorl crystal from the lesser-known locality of Bulochi within the greater Gilgit district, with patches of albite placed aesthetically around the bottom sides and top of the specimen to provide a pop of contrast that makes this specimen eye-catching. It is a piece with great presence, due to the stark geometry and symmetry here. The photos speak for themselves! Valued $3500-4500. Comes with a custom lucite base. As a final note, we can add honestly that we are not often so excited about Schorl, and most of them simply are black tourmaline. But this, it is another level - and is a very fine, very showy, mineral specimen that stands out dramatically from others of its size class in this species.
