Item Description

This is a true old USA classic, that you see in books or old East Coast museums and almost never for sale in the open market: Diopside crystal from New York. It is unusually robust and large, overall a really high quality crystal with deep color and a large translucent zone that could probably cut a stone. The terminations are broad, lustrous, and well-developed, much more than you normally see for large diopsides from this classic locale. It is about 50 grams, so it's sizable, as you can see. I have seen many short stumpy diopsides from this location over the years, turn up in old collections. Seldom have I seen one with such presence, because it is thick and fat and has such rich color. This is a superb single crystal. Ex Kevin Brown collection, purchased in the 1990s. Valued $1500-2000.
