significant Calcite with Hematite ex Ed David (circa 1800s)

A choice, large Calcite cluster from the historic iron mines of Egremont with both size and color going for it! The complex, scalenohedral forms, high luster, and the fact that some of the Calcites are doubly-terminated help make this an intriguing and imposing cabinet specimen. Add in the attractive, brick-red coloration from the Hematite inclusions, and you have a remarkable, old-time specimen, probably at least a hundred years old. As you would hope for, the Calcite also has an intense, orange fluorescence. This simply is an outstanding and colorful old English Calcite, with some unusual presence to it compared to others. Previously in the renowned collection of Dr. Ed David, as indicated by the molded black base that he prefered to use for his specimens.
