Item Description

The Roxbury Iron Mines are well known and the first confirmed mining activity was in 1750. They were a big part of early American mining. The mines were first worked for silver and lead, then iron. This sculptural specimen of nearly solid siderite has just a bit of quartz. Sharp, really lustrous platy crystals are chocolate brown, BUT have fabulous burnt-orange iridescence, when rotated in light! Undoubtably older material, but no proof.
