Item Description
This historic specimen comes with labels from the collection of Kay Robertson (Collection #8074) along with two old hand-written labels (one from the Dabbert Collection, and the other from an unknown collection). All three labels refer to the specimen as Sphaerosiderite, which is a microcrystalline, botryoidal variety of Siderite, but this piece should honestly be labeled as simply Siderite because the crystals are rather distinct and well-defined. Sharp, compressed / tabular rhombic crystals of Siderite with a rich brown hue measuring up to 1.2 cm aesthetically sitting on iron-stained Quartz matrix. The label from Robertson says that the Siderite is sitting in basalt for some reason, so I'm not sure if it's correctly labeled, but these labels were sitting with the piece when we acquired the collection.
