Siderite (RARE locality specimen) (ex Gerry Morvell Collection)

Item Description

A fantastic and high quality showy display specimen of the seldom seen Siderites from the Sterling Mine in Antwerp, New York. This piece is loaded with dozens upon dozens of notably lustrous, sharp, well-formed, rhombic crystals of rich honey-brown colored Siderite measuring up to 4 mm sitting on reddish-black Hematite matrix. This historic, old, open pit and underground mine was reopened in 1904 and closed in 1910. Primary production was over 100 years ago. If you collect minerals of the East Coast, or specifically minerals of New York, or if you have a love for carbonates, this is a must have specimen, as these pieces are virtually unseen in today's market.
