Item Description

Arkansas siderite is extremely rare from any of the 27 localities listed in MINDAT (one photo is shown). Highly lustrous, rust-brown to olive-green to black botryoids fill the sculptural vug, that looks like a monster's open mouth. The broken botryoids reveal the black, inner core of the siderites. Old-time material from the John White Collection of Seattle. The handwritten note on the back of his faded label indicates this piece was part of his childhood collection, given to him in 1946. Unique Arkansas siderite with a provenance. NOTE ADDED - THE MATRIX IS BAUXITE, THUS TRACING THE LOCALE TO EITHER Pulaski Bauxite District, Pulaski Co., Arkansas OR THE Bauxite Mines, Bauxite, Saline Co., Arkansas
