Siderite on Quartz - 1800s classic

A showy, choice, old-time combination specimen from the famous Neudorf area of Germany, literally the source of so much mineralogical study of the 1700s and 1800s, and a treasured loclaity in all the old European cabinets of curiosities. The Siderite rhombs, a mix of the colors straw, olive, and brown, have a superb luster that is enhanced by the excellent translucence. Underlying these 8 mm Siderites is a matrix of sharp, water-clear Quartz crystals. This locality is best known for its amazing Galena specimens, but this fine Siderite is highly representative of the species and is over 100 years old, as the mines closed in 1903.
