Item Description

A dramatic, old-time, CABINET, combination specimen from the famous Sterling Mine at Antwerp, New York. The amazingly sculptural, ship-shaped matrix is massive hematite. Sparkly rosettes of hematite blades line the ships "hold" and "superstructure", which in turn are festooned with very sharp, individual crystals and rosettes of starkly contrasting, pretty brown, siderite rhombs. This historic, old, open pit and underground mine was REOPENED in 1904 and closed in 1910! Primary production was over 100 years ago! Ex Dennis Mullane Collection. Very showy, choice and rare, large combination material, seldom available today. An old cloth label is glued to one side. 3.1 pounds or 1.4 kilos.
