Item Description

Clusters of translucent, sharp, yellow-brown to black siderite rhombs are richly and aesthetically scattered on the large banded matrix plate covered with a starkly contrasting thin layer of sparkling, rich brick-red, hematite-included drusy quartz. The two sculptural connected clusters in the center are 3.3 cm across. Mineral specimens, in general, are rare from this mine, the most important and richest mine in the famous Siegerland district (MINDAT). Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2300 and acquired from Scott Williams in the early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rare and excellent large old-time combination material from this Fe-Cu-Co mine that operated from the 18th century until 1960.
