Item Description
A classic specimen of the famous gemmy green Siderites from the famous Morro Velho Gold mine in Brazil. Despite the fact that this was a Gold mine, it produced some really eye-catching Siderite specimens during the early 1970s. The highly compressed, distinctive rhombohedra of Siderite show beautiful sharp, lustrous faces with good internal gemminess. The color is certainly characteristic for the locality. The crystals on this specimen are fine quality for the species and are associated with minor Marcasite and Pyrrhotite crystals. The largest Siderite measures 3.1 cm across. A great association specimen of this well known material from Brazil. From the collection of the long time, beloved, well-known French field collector, Paul Zerfass (Collection #271). Zerfass built this worldwide collection over nearly 50 years, many of which were personally collected. A biography featuring specimens from his collection (along with his face on the cover) is in the May - June 2017 issue of French mineral magazine, Le Regne Mineral. We have a .pdf copy of the article for anybody interested in reading it (though it's mostly in French). Just drop us a line and know that you'd like to have a copy.
