Siderite (ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection)

Dalnegorsk is one of the great world localities in terms of production of fine quality, well-crystallized display specimens over the last few decades. This piece is a less commonly seen matrix display specimen of Siderite featuring attractive sharp, well-formed, rich golden-brown colored rhombic crystals, aesthetically perched atop matrix with minor associated lustrous, black Sphalerite crystals and white Quartz. The largest individual Siderite measures 2.2 cm. The piece is highly three-dimensional, as there are Siderite crystals on both sides of the matrix. The piece is in great condition all around and looks great up close and in a display case. This is a rare style and habit for Siderite from Dalnegorsk, as we're used to seeing the light tan colored "balls" from this area, but actual rhombic crystals are hard to find.
