Item Description
A very hard to find specimen from the little known Bankers and Exchange Mine, north of the town of Ouray (about 1.5 miles east of Portland). This piece is loaded with attractive scalenohedral crystals of Calcite forming a wonderful feathery "spray" on matrix. The Calcite crystals are coated by brownish-golden colored Siderite to create a striking effect. We've never had a piece of this material to offer in the auctions prior to this specimen. If you're a fan of oddball locality specimens, or if you collect Colorado minerals or Calcite/Siderite don't miss out on this incredibly hard to find piece. The specimen was collected by Robert Stoufer in 2017. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States). You can read Gary's obituary here https://www.dcourier.com/news/2019/apr/27/obituary-gary-richard-weaver/
