Item Description

The Black Cloud Mine in Leadville is famous for producing some iconic mineral specimens for many decades until its closure in 1999. During the 1970s-1980s, we saw a good amount of attractive display quality pieces come out of this famous locale. This piece was mined by Mike Sterkel during that time and features a three-dimensional mound covered in sharp, highly compressed, tan colored rhombohedra of Siderite measuring up to 7 mm across associated with metallic golden Pyrite, silvery Galena, black Sphalerite and some small colorless Quartz crystals. There is a small amount of damage, but the VAST majority of the crystals are damage free. It's a great piece to view with a loupe as the small sulfides are best seen with a bit of magnification. A showy and eye-catching specimen from this important mine in Leadville.
