Item Description

Shigaite is a rare aluminum manganese sulfate, and there are about a dozen that populate the very unusual matrix of this specimen. The hexagonal Shigaites have superb luster, a lustrous yellow-orange-red coloration, and reach up to about 3 mm in size. They seem to be slightly pseudomorphing(i have been told to pyroaurite, but am not sure), yet bright red shigaite faces remain. The Shigaites grow primarily on fine brown blades of an unknown mineral. These blades themselves seem to transition right from the bulk of the matrix, which is a fine-grained, tan-colored mineral with an exceptional shimmery luster.
