Item Description

The classic New Cornelia Mine in Ajo, Arizona is one of the best-known localities for Shattuckite in the US. The material was first discovered at the Shattuck Mine in Bisbee, but the Ajo material is typically larger and richer in color, considered to be the best from Arizona from what I'm told. The rare copper silicate is hard to find in good sized gems like this, and this particular stone comes from an older find, dating back several decades. The stone is a polished "Oval" slice of deep navy blue Shattuckite, with a bit of attached mint green Ajoite at the base. Both sides are polished, showing the strong blue color of the Shattuckite. A great rarity to be sure, and highly desirable among Arizona collectors. The stone came to us with retail price tag of $1,161.00 for reference.
