Item Description

The Van der Plas Mine in Namibia is a lesser-known locality that produced some excellent specimens of Shattuckite dating back to 2015. We've only had a handful of them over the years, but this one stands out because it's the ONLY specimen of Shattuckite pseudomorphing after Malachite that we've ever had to offer from the locality. You can see the well-defined prismatic crystals of what were previously Malachite have been completely replaced by the gorgeous deep sky blue Shattuckite, and individual crystals measure up to about 7 mm. A TINY bit of remaining Malachite can be seen on the underside of the piece. The specimen is nearly a complete "floater", as it's largely crystallized all over. A fantastic and frankly very hard to find pseudomorph from this somewhat obscure locality that would make a great addition to any secondary ore collection, a suite of copper minerals, or worldwide pseudomorphs.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#191 Na), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection for the foreseeable future through our various platforms.
