Shattuckite pocket with Malachite on Quartz

A full 2.7 cm across, this gorgeous, interestingly-shaped pocket is composed of pure Shattuckite, a rare secondary copper silicate found in the oxidation zone of copper deposits. Shattuckite was actually first discovered in 1915 at Bisbee, but today African specimens are the most abundant. This dramatic, small-cabinet, combination piece shows exactly why Namibian Shattuckites rule. The thick, outer layer of the pocket is a good example of Shattuckite's oft-radial growth, and the pocket itself is filled with outstanding, deep-blue spheres up to slightly more than 1 cm. The terminations along the surfaces are so lustrous that even under moderate light the Shattuckite simply sparkles. Great Shattuckite can have a look and beauty all its own, and the associated Quartz and Malachite add even more contrast and interest to the sheer aesthetics of this piece. It is a preserved pocket, as nature formed it!
