Shattuckite (2014 find)

Thick intergrown nubby botryoids of pretty cornflower-blue shattuckite form a very sculptural small cabinet from the limited 2014 find at this less well-known extinct open pit copper mine, worked occasionally for specimens. The striking pinwheel is 3.1 cm across. The brown iron oxide coatings add color and contrast. Beautiful shimmering chatoyancy highlights the fantastic two-color rich cornflower-blue radial growth of the acicular crystals on the broken botryoids on the periphery of this striking specimen. The bottom shows, that this is a solid crust of shattuckite, a rare Cu-silicate. The aesthetic form of this piece is remarkable and is certainly one of the finer examples in the small lot we recently received. Valued at $750 by the former dealer and worth it.
