Sharp Chalcocite xls (fine old classic circa mid-1800s)

An exceptional old-time chalcocite small cabinet from the famous Geevor Mine in Cornwall. Sharp, striated, classic flattened pseuohexagonal, metallic charcoal-gray crystals are very aesthetically set on two edges and the tip of the sculptural spearpoint-shaped granite matrix wedge. The dramatic compound crystals are 2.5 cm across and the sharp crystal at the tip is 1.0 cm. Crystals of this outstanding quality are RARE from Geevor and this is an outstanding example. The area around this historic mine was intermittently active from the late 1700s until 1992. Valued at $1250-plus for the SHARP xls. From a small collection in England we obtained over the summer.
