Item Description

Augite is EXTREMELY RARE from the three localities listed by MINDAT for Kenya. There are no photos in the Gallery. AND the Northern slopes of Mount Kenya (17,057') ARE NOT one of the listed localities. This is a very sharp prism of this well-known Pyroxene Group species. Complete all-around, the lustrous crystal is dark olive-green with nifty flashes of light olive-green translucence. The primary attachment is at the base of the crystal and the gentle bruising and contacting is certainly only a negligible detraction to this sharp crystal. Rare, perhaps UNIQUE augite from Kenya from the David Burgess Collection.
