Item Description

PLEASE NOTE: This specimen is labeled as coming from the Johns-Manville Asbestos Mine in Reeves, Timmins, Ontario, Canada. Now I can't find an actual listing for Johns-Mansville Mine in the Timmins area, but the Slade-Forbes Mine was optioned by Johns-Mansville in 1943, so this might be the correct locality for the specimen. As far as Reeves is concerned, it's not in Timmins, (it's actually in Sudbury), and Serpentine is reported from a single locality on mindat.org. If anybody out there has some information as to where this piece might specifically be from, please contact us so we can update this listing. With that said, this is a beautiful specimen of "Serpentine" (specifically the Serpentine Subgroup of the Kaolinite-Serpentine Group) and could be either Chrysotile or possibly Antigorite. The particular specimen has beautiful green hue yellow-green and hue with a semi-fibrous form on the surface. An attractive nearly large cabinet sized specimen. From the collection of Henry de Linde (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987.
