Item Description
Serendibite stands with ultra-rare species such as Painite that have recently been found in superb crystallized examples in the Mogok area of Burma. To the best of my knowledge, the only notable crystals of Serendibite in the world are found in this area. Sharp crystals are seldom seen, and crystals with any gemminess are extremely difficult to find. This blocky partial triclinic crystal shows somewhat smooth faces, with the typical nearly black (very deep blue-green-yellow color - somewhat similar to Lazulite). When the crystal is lit from one side, a very slight amount of gemminess can be seen in the form of light yellow and green hues, but you will need a very powerful light to see it. If you're a rare species collector, or a collector of hard to find thumbnail minerals, this is a great opportunity to snag a specimen of a species that is only found in about a dozen world wide localities. Incidentally, the type locality for Serendbite is actually in Sri Lanka, as Serendib is the old Arabic name for Sri Lanka.
