Item Description

Serendibite is a notably rare species, that was virtually unseen on the market in collector quality specimens, but superb crystallized examples have been found in the Mogok area of Myanmar in recent years. With that said, to the best of my knowledge, the only notable crystals of Serendibite in the world are found in this area. Sharp crystals are seldom seen, and crystals with any gemminess are extremely difficult to find. This somewhat crystal shows well-formed lustrous faces, with the typical nearly black hue on the surface. When the crystal is STRONGLY backlit, a very slight amount of gemminess can be seen in the form of light blue hues. If you're a rare species collector, or a collector of hard to find thumbnail minerals, this is a great opportunity to snag a specimen of a species that is only found in about a dozen world wide localities. Incidentally, the type locality for Serendibite is actually in Sri Lanka, as Serendib is the old Arabic name for Sri Lanka.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-198286.html
