Item Description

Serendibite is a rather rare borosilicate mineral, first reported from Sri Lanka in 1903, but has only been found in seven countries around the world. Interestingly, according to the entry on mindat.org, there seem to be more localities for the species in New York state than anywhere else worldwide. This piece is from the Armstrong Farm locality in Johnsburg, New York, where along with some other places in Warren County, some of the best-known contemporary pieces have been found. The specimen features massive/crystalline blue Serendibite associated with a bit of golden-brown Phlogopite with what appears to be Calcite matrix. A really interesting rarity that would make a great addition to any East Coast mineral collection or a suite of rare minerals. From the collection of Colin Manlove.
