Serendibite (Extremely rare! Currier Coll.)

Item Description

Named after Serendib, the old Arabic name for Sri Lanka, this is a very rare and large crystal of the species. This species is a very rare, seldom crystallized member of the sapphirine family of minerals. Because large, crystallized examples of this extremely rare species were so important, when the first samples came out around the early 2000's, collector Rock Currier bought this large one for his own collection from collector James Zigras, who obtained it from his sources in the gem industry. It is about 28 carats and measured 1.6 x 1 x 0.9 cm. It is well terminated. Ex: James Zigras and Rock Currier collection with Currier label.
