Item Description

When it comes to rare gems, you might see lists that include stones such as Phosphophyllite, Painite, Musgravite, Taaffeite, Poudretteite, Red Beryl, etc., but a stone that often never gets mentioned is Serendibite. Here we have an exceptionally are faceted stone of Serendibite which gets it name after "Serendib", the old Arabic name for Sri Lanka, where it was first discovered in the early 1900s. It has only been found in 7 countries, and the best contemporary stones are those from Mogok, Myanmar. This stone dates back to the early 2000s, and it is one of the VERY few examples we've had to offer in the auctions. The stone has a traditional "Cushion" cut and although it might appear black, it's not opaque, as it shows slight blue-green and smoky golden hues internally with STRONG backlighting. A fantastic collector's gem that is virtually unseen on the market today.
