Serandite with Aegirine (from the original find)

The piece comes from the collection of Colin Manlove, and the attached label says it is from the "original find at MSH". The locality started production in 1959, but mineral collecting really didn't start until about 1963, though I cannot find a report of the first time that Serandite / Aegirine was found at this prolific quarry. With that said, this is a showy and eye-catching cabinet display specimen featuring fiery pinkish-orange to dark pinkish-brown colored crystals of Serandite (some of which are GEMMY when backlit) measuring up to 1.7 cm, associated with "needle"-like acicular crystals of dark Aegirine, on matrix. The piece is not undamaged, there are some obvious points of contact, but it is certainly a big, eye-catching specimen, and when you look at it closely, you can see some very beautiful crystallization.
