Item Description

Serpierite and ktenasite are uncommon and rare hydrated copper-zinc sulfates. The famous and ancient Kamariza Mines at Lavrion are the Type Locality for both species. Powder-blue, spherical aggregates of serpierite very richly cover the front of this large, 3-dimensional, vuggy, sandstone matrix. There is very little ktenasite on the front of the piece. The 3.7 cm vug on the back shows much blue-green, crystallized ktenasite with the serpierite, especially on the flat, left face of the vug. Hard to photograph, but it is there. Fine, large and rich combination material from a classic locale.
