Senegalite (incredibly rare) (ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection)

This is a rarely seen specimen of Senegalite, an incredibly rare hydrated aluminum hydroxy phosphate that is only found in a few localities in the world. This species was first described in 1976 and was named after the nation of Senegal, the site of the type locality. As a matter of fact, outside of the type locality, the only other country where Senegalite is found is Brazil. This is a lovely small cabinet sized specimen featuring sparkling beautiful yellow-green crystals of Senegalite which are associated with thin layers of stark sky blue Turquoise in vugs of Limonite matrix. The color and quality are very good for the species. If you collect rare species or minerals from the type locality, do not miss out on this one as they are rarely offered for sale these days, especially in this size and quality. Retail value on this is approximately $700-$900. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
