Seligmannite (RARE locality specimen) (ex Frank Keutsch Collection)

Item Description

An incredibly rarely seen specimen of the Seligmannite from the Madem-Lakko Mine (Madem Laccos Mine), in Macedonia, Greece. Seligmannite is a lead copper arsenic sulfosalt, which is part of the Bournonite Group and forms a series with Bournonite (Sb-As replacement). The crystals look incredibly similar to Bournonite with the same bright gun metal hue and luster. The crystals on this specimen are beautiful striated orthorhombic prisms with excellent luster measuring up to 8 mm long, sitting atop drusy grey-white Quartz crystals on matrix. Like Bournonite, Seligmannite forms attractive twinned crystals, and we found a beautiful "V"-shaped or "butterfly"-like twin on this specimen (first photo). This is the first and ONLY specimen of this material that we've seen from this lesser known mine, so if you collect rare locality specimens or worldwide sulfosalts, do not pass this one up.
